Digital Universe

"The Digital Universe will become—we hope—the largest reliable information resource in history It will consist of an encyclopedia, library, archive, multimedia learning center, news source, web directory, and more.  The central, but not exclusive, focus will be reliable content.  The content will be sorted into an exhaustive and enormous subject taxonomy agreed-upon by genuine subject-area experts.  Each node of the taxonomy will concern a distinct topic, such as the planet Mars.  For each node and topic, there will be a portal, which will sort content on the topic according to function; for example, encyclopedic-type information about Mars will be located in one area of the portal, news in another, and relevant books in another.  But all information on a topic will live at the same portal.  Moreover, it will be easy to navigate from node to related node in the taxonomy.  The Digital Universe will be something new under the sun; there just is no word or precise short phrase for it."
